Q: How do I disable the IPv6 Internet Connection Firewall on the local machine?
A: To disable the IPv6 Internet Connection Firewall on the local machine, simply go to “Add/Remove Programs->Add/Remove Windows Components->Networking Services” and uncheck “IPv6 Internet Connection Firewall”. This, however, will reset the port openings in the IPv6 Internet Connection Firewall. To disable the firewall and retain port settings, disable the “IPv6 Internet Connection Firewall” service via the “Services” application located in the “Administrative Tools” folder in the “Control Panel”.

NIC Teaming Hack
Main issue for NICs with no IPv6 teaming support is DAD – Causes duplicate checks on Team and Physical even though the physical is not used for addressing
Set DAD on Team interface to “0” – Understand what you are doing
Microsoft Vista/Server 2008 allows for a command line change to reduce the “DAD transmits” value from 1 to 0
netsh interface ipv6 set interface 19 dadtransmits=0
Microsoft Windows 2003 – Value is changed via a creation in the registry
\\HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters\Interfaces\(InterfaceGUID)\DupAddrDetectTransmits - Value “0”
Linux
# sysctl -w net/ipv6/conf/bond0/dad_transmits=0
net.ipv6.conf.eth0.dad_transmits = 0

Intel ANS NIC Teaming For IPv6
Intel IPv6 NIC Q&A – Product support
http://www.intel.com/support/network/sb/cs-009090.htm
Intel now supports IPv6 with Express, ALB, and AFT deployments
- Intel statement of support for RLB – “Receive Load Balancing (RLB) is not supported on IPv6 network connections. If a team has a mix of IPv4 and IPv6 connections, RLB will work on the IPv4 connections but not on the IPv6 connections. All other teaming features will work on the IPv6 connections.”

http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc3315.txt
Clients listen for DHCP messages on UDP port 546. Servers and relay
agents listen for DHCP messages on UDP port 547.
Relays listen for all traffic, whether from a client or the server, on port
547. Source addresses are not specified by RFC 3315; any port (not
restricted to just 546 and 547) can be used as a source port. The message
recipient ignores the source port.

Initial IPv6 MIBs were developed for IPv6 only – Old MIBs
RFC 2465 IPv6 MIB
RFC 2466 ICMPv6
RFC 2452 IPv6 TCP MIB
RFC 2454 IPv6 UDP MIB
The IETF intends to deprecate the old MIBs when the “new” MIBs are complete
IETF statement: The IPV6-TCP-MIB defined in RFC 2452 (and others) has been moved to Historic since the approach of having separate IP version specific tables is not followed anymore. Implementation of RFC 2452 is thus not suggested anymore.
RFC 4293 (IP MIB) and RFC 4292 (IP Forwarding Table MIB)
Obsoletes RFCs 2011, 2465 and 2466
RFC 4022 (TCP MIB)
RFC 4113 (UDP MIB)
RFC 4087 (IP Tunnel MIB)
draft-ietf-ipv6-rfc2011-update-10.txt (IP MIB)
Obsoletes RFCs 2011, 2465 and 2466
Proposed standard; in the RFC Editor's queue
draft-ietf-ipv6-rfc2096-update-07.txt (IP Forwarding Table MIB)
Proposed standard; in the RFC Editor's queue
RFC 4022 (TCP MIB)
draft-ietf-ipv6-rfc2013-update-04.txt (UDP MIB)

draft-ietf-ipv6-inet-tunnel-mib-03.txt (IP Tunnel MIB)
draft-ietf-idr-bgp4-mibv2-05.txt (BGP MIB)
Document is now obsolete; was different from draft-ietf-idr-bgp4-mib-14.txt, which is just an update (mainly cleanup) to RFC 1657
draft-ietf-idr-bgp4-mibv2-05.txt (BGP MIB)
Regularly obsolete; different from RFC 4273, which is just an update (mainly cleanup) to RFC 1657
draft-ietf-ospf-ospfv3-mib-10.txt (OSPFv3 MIB)
On-going
MLDv1 MIB (RFC 3019) – MLDv1 is RFC 2710
But MLDv2 (RFC 3810) is now published and implemented
Cisco IPv6 MIB
Cisco IOS implementation—Cisco-IETF-IP and
Cisco-IETF-IP-Forwarding MIB—is compliant with -00 of these new drafts
Cisco IOS 12.2(14)S, 12.0(22)S, and 12.2(15)T/12.3(1)M/12.3(2)T
No support of Interface Stats table—IPv4/IPv6 traffic stats at the interface level
IPv4/IPv6 stats can be monitored from CLI “show interface accounting” on most platforms
Plan is to update these MIBs when finally published
Interface Stats table will be added

• No radical changes in socket API
• Many platforms support PF_INET6 socket for both IPv6 and IPv4 (using IPv4-mapped IPv6 addr.), else application might need one for each
• sockaddr_in6, sockaddr_storage
• Replace gethostbyname() with getaddrinfo(), thread safe
• Replace inet_aton(), inet_addr() with inet_pton()
• Replace inet_ntoa() with inet_ntop(), thread safe

utilities
The IPv6 protocol for Windows provides correspondent node support as described in draft 13 of the Internet draft titled "Mobility Support in IPv6" (now RFC 3775). The IPv6 protocol for Windows does not provide support mobile node or home agent support. By default, the correspondent node functionality is disabled and binding updates are required to use the IPsec Authentication Header (AH) for authentication. To enable the correspondent node functionality, use the netsh interface ipv6 set mobility correspondentnode=enabled command.
The Mobile IPv6 Technology Preview was developed by Microsoft Research and supports full RFC 3775-compliant correspondent node, mobile node, and home agent functionality for computers running various versions of Windows. However, the Mobile IPv6 Technology Preview is not currently available. Microsoft will consider making a version of Mobile IPv6 available for use in the future if there is sufficient customer demand.
To enable the correspondent node functionality, use the “netsh interface ipv6 set mobility correspondentnode=enabled” command.
