Cisco Digital Media Manager

Cisco Video Portal

Here is some information for our discussion tomorrow morning.

Cisco’s DMS is the next generation video streaming solution that is intended to improve upon IP-TV.

The DMS solution uses new media encorder appliances that replace the Cisco IP-TV content servers with video capture cards in them.

The Cisco Digital Media Encoder 1000 and Cisco Digital Media Encoder 2000 have different slightly features and interfaces.  This link provides a comparison between them.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/ps7063/prod_models_comparison.html

The Digital Media Manager v3.4 runs on either a MCS-7825 (500 concurrent viewers) or an MCS-7835 (1000 concurrent viewers).

DMM is used to customize the Video Portal

The Video Portal v3.4 is the web interface that runs on another MCS and it is intended to replace the IP-TV viewer client software.

The Cisco IP-TV broadcast servers are replaced with WAE appliances running ACSN 5.5 (CE-512, CE-612) that can cache the streams.

The Video Portal pushes the programming information to the WAEs that are distributed around the network.

Cisco’s information is pretty sparse about this new solution, but there are some initial details.

Here are some links with some overview information.

Look into UUNET, I don't know their presence in Europe (here's a map <http://www.uu.net/network/maps/europe/>, looks like they have a pretty good footprint and backbone speeds up to 0c-48), and I know they support Multicast via their "UUcast service offering", they are also a big customer of Lucent.  Also their SLA's can't be beat.

The Multicast Tester has finally gotten its long overdue cleanup.
Notable improvements:
-signed with current certificate
-timeout reduced to 5 seconds (was 10)
-applet now displays countdown to timeout
-new applet parameter to control the target of the redirect
-simplified GUI to one button
-improved method of deployment on your own site

The new version can be run from
